Hello! I am Michele Lucero the Director and Teacher in the Preschool program here at Grand Peak. I have been in the Early Childhood Education field for 29 years. I started as a licensed in-home provider then moved on to child care centers as a teacher working with all ages groups of children. After 17 years of teaching and more education I became a Director of large child care centers. I held this position for over 8 years then realized I missed being with the children. That led me to my position here at Grand Peak. I am extremely happy to be back with the children and part of the GPA team.
I am originally from California but I have been living on Colorado Springs since 1996. I have two grown children, a son and daughter in law and four grandchildren who all live in Colorado. Family time is my favorite time!
Working with children is a new adventure each day and I wouldn’t wan it any other way!
HELLO! My name is Nakiesha Coleman-Colby and I’m the pre-school teacher here at Grand Peak. I was born in Dayton, Ohio but I have lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado for 25 years. I graduated from High School in 1995. I have been in the Early Childhood field for over 20 years. I started in the child care field as a teachers’ aide working with three to four year olds then worked my way up to a school-age teacher. After a few years I realized that I missed working with younger children so I became a pre-k teacher (again). I am currently enrolled at Pikes Peak Community College taking classes in Early Childhood Education for my Director’s Certificate. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to work with children and be a part of the Grand Peak Academy family.
I’m married and we have a son who graduated from High School in 2017. I’m a big sports fan for the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and the Colorado Avalanche. In the spare time I enjoy going to the movies, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
A little about me, I was born and raised right here in Colorado Springs. After high school I moved away to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO (GO RAMS!) following which I moved to Denver where I taught preschool for three years before finding my way back to Colorado Springs. I am so glad that I have found my way to Grand Peak Academy. I believe in a structured classroom environment that allows your child freedom from distractions so they can explore and learn more about the world around them. My classroom is a place where I work hard to make sure every child is seen, heard and allowed to be uniquely them self.
I am a happily married Colorado Springs native with two adult children. I am a graduate of Thomas B. Doherty High School and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I have worked in the Core Knowledge Classical charter school environment since 2007. I started as a Teacher’s Aide for Kindergarten and First Grade then transitioned to a Testing Aide focused on data gathering via standardized testing methods. I returned to my love of working in the classroom with Kindergarten students when I started at Imagine Classical Academy Indigo Ranch as an Instructional Aide in 2013. I became the half-day Kindergarten teacher in the fall of 2014. I have taught full day Kindergarten 2015-to present. Outside of school I enjoy reading, gardening, scrap-booking, and baking.
My name is Audra Tilden and I am thrilled to be teaching Kindergarten at Grand Peak Academy. I have three children that have all attended Grand Peak (formerly Imagine Classical Academy) from Kindergarten to the present.

In my spare time I can be found antique shopping, sewing new creations and spending time with my husband and three kiddos.
Hello and welcome to kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Kari Jones, and I was born and raised in a small Iowa town. I earned my bachelor’s degree in K-8 education and K-6 mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa. I began my teaching career nearly two decades ago in Omaha, Nebraska. While teaching in Omaha, I earned my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and in all, I spent seven years there. Then, I married my husband, and we moved overseas where I was a long-term substitute for the Department of Defense Schools in Germany. After two years in Germany, we moved to the NATO base in Belgium, and I was hired to teach full-time for the Department of Defense school there. We spent nearly seven years in Belgium before moving to Colorado Springs. This will be my second year teaching kindergarten at GPA, but my third year working within district 49. I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and growing with your student.
Hi! My name is Christina Young, and I am honored to be teaching first grade at Grand Peak Academy. I am a blessed mom of two amazing boys who attend this school as well. They keep me busy and always laughing! I come from a dual military family and have lived many places. I graduated high school in Oklahoma, and college from the University of Texas at Dallas. I go back to visit family and friends as often as I can.
Hello my name is Moriah Stroh. I have been with this team since spring of 2016. My passion is to teach young people to love all aspects of school.
I have always enjoyed helping others succeed starting with my years in 4-H teaching others how to show and care for their animals. My life strayed from teaching in order to get a BS in Accounting at DeVry but once I started my own family I realized what I was missing. I rejoined 4-H as a leader and absolutely loved helping kids succeed at the Fair. Once my own children were old enough to be in school I volunteered and taught lessons in a virtual school CO-OP where I taught 8 to 15 students once a week. This choice brought me to a full circle and helped me take the leap to go back to school to get a Masters in Elementary Education through Grand Canyon University.
I am excited to have this chance to partner with you in order to build your child’s future!
I have been working with children for the past seven years. Prior to joining the school family in 2012, I was an assistant director on Ft. Carson at a daycare. I am originally from Valley Center, Kansas (a small suburb of Wichita). I have my Bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University in Education. In my free time I enjoys her quality family time, working out at the gym, gardening, baking, and reading.
I have taught first grade since 2013 after completing my student teaching at Imagine Classical Academy. I feel so blessed to be a part of such a professional organization. I love the classical education model and the great curriculum we teach. I really feel like my students are getting a strong education from what we are able to teach them. Beyond that, teaching here is like being a part of great family of committed teachers and wonderful families who I have loved to get to know over the years.
I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade this year at Grand Peak Academy! Back in 1998, I earned my B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Morris. After school, I ventured to southern California where I taught for a few years and I met and married my wonderful husband in 2001. Soon after, we moved to Colorado Springs and I taught a couple more years right here in D49. I left teaching to raise our son, who was born in 2004, and his sister who followed in 2007.
Both of our children have really enjoyed their Core Knowledge experience here at our terrific school. My kids were having so much fun at school that I decided to join the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and was the President 2013-2017. That collaborative experience really helped me understand our incredible school community. Beginning in 2017, I enjoyed being a kindergarten paraprofessional here and it was a great step toward going back to the classroom to teach full time.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me studying our family genealogy, photographing my kids in their various scouting activities, and taking an occasional tap dance class. I feel blessed that we live in this beautiful city of Colorado Springs with all that it has to offer us. What a privilege and an honor it is to be teaching again!

I am very excited to be teaching 2nd Grade at Grand Peak Academy. The concept of team will be our theme this year. As a former volleyball coach, I believe strongly in an environment where teamwork is valued and encouraged paired with high expectations. Learning and bonding will take place, as a group of people work together, respect each other, and feel valued. I look forward to getting to know each of my students and helping them to discover how they are uniquely wired and how they can use their gifts to contribute to the whole.
As mentioned above, I coached club and high school volleyball for over 25 years. One of my most favorite memories coaching was winning a silver medal in the Junior Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. My team came together during that tournament and accomplished something so incredible. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful children. My husband can fix anything, and my kiddos enjoy theater and dance. We also have two sweet cats that enjoy lounging on our laps.
In my free time, you will find me watching old movies, going for walks (and maybe a jog here and there), driving my kids around town for their various theater and dance classes, and organizing and cleaning my house. I love a clean house!

Hello! I’m Lisa Gilmore and am excited to serve as Grand Peak Academy’s School Counselor. I have loved working at this school over the years since I began in 2015 as a third grade paraprofessional. I then transitioned to the Special Education team while pursuing a Master’s degree in School Counseling. Although I am not a Colorado native, I’m happy to call Colorado Springs my home. I grew up in Oklahoma and then moved to the Springs in 2006 to live closer to family. In Oklahoma, I worked as a Career Counselor at the University of Central Oklahoma for 9 years. I loved working with college students but once my son started preschool, I soon figured out that I wanted to work with elementary and middle school students. It has been a blessing to work at the same school that my son attends as well. My mom lives in Woodland Park and we love to go on hikes up in the mountains with her. Additional family members are our three cats, George, Gracie and Miss Lulu.
Another passion of mine is volunteering for a non-profit group called Above the Rest (ATR). My son and I have been involved with this youth mentoring and leadership program for over 2 years.
I received my B.A. in education at Arcadia University in Pennsylvania and my M.Ed. in Reading and Early Childhood Education at Georgia State University. I started teaching in 1979 in Georgia and taught 4th, 2nd, and 1st grades. In 2006, I moved to Colorado, after getting married, and started teaching at Rocky Mountain Classical Academy. There I taught Kindergarten, 1st grade, and was a reading specialist. I transferred to Grand Peak Academy in 2013 and enjoyed teaching first grade for two years. In 2015, I began my dream job as the reading interventionist. I hope to instill my love of reading in struggling readers and help them achieve success.
My passion is helping students discover the abilities within themselves and instilling a pride in accomplishment. My desire is to really know each child’s individual strengths and needs in order to provide effective instruction that will compliment and cultivate the uniqueness of each child. In modeling and maintaining high academic and behavior standards, through patience and mutual respect, all students can be successful.
I strive to provide a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. My hope is to offer a warm, welcoming, positive, and safe atmosphere in which respect for self, others, and the joy of learning is fostered.
My goal is to involve parents as partners in creating and promoting achievement and in developing a love of learning. Therefore, I wish to develop and maintain open and frequent communication throughout the year.
As I work with each child, learn from them, and share their triumphs and struggles, it is amazing and rewarding to see each student grow and experience success. Thank you for sharing your precious children with me.
