Over the Winter Break we got the “final” results from the Harvest of Love Food drive. Grand Peak Academy raised the equivalent of over 2 TONS of food (4,615 lbs) to help feed the hungry here in southern Colorado.
The top contributing class was Audra Tilden’s 1st grade class with 2176 lbs and although her class accounted for almost half of the total amount, just about every class contributed with some type of donation. Congratulations on a great Food Drive and with showing how the students live one of our Core Virtues and Character values of Community involvement and Generosity.
Members of Cub Scout Pack 255 were honored to be able to help with the food drive this year and look forward to an even better drive next year.
Cub Scout Pack 255 is hosting the Harvest of Love Food Drive at Grand Peak Academy. The Cub Scouts are trying to collect the equivalent of 15,000 lbs this year. The food drive runs from Nov 11th to Nov 22nd and we have multiple ways the GPA families can contribute to the drive.
By the way, the classroom with the highest weight (based on actual food and equivalent monetary donations) will receive a pizza party compliments of Pack 255!
Ways to participate:
- #1 Bring canned food into the school, there will be a deposit box in each classroom every morning.
- #2 Donate money – Care and Share will credit 10lbs for each $1 donation as this will provide up to 8 meals for people. (use this link) donate under teacher’s name for your student on the website or send the money with them to school.
- #3 Volunteer to help the Scouts with the morning collection and weigh-in. (email Doug at firstname.lastname@example.org with dates you can help)
As Grand Peak Academy students and families, our mission is “to develop students of great character, who are culturally aware, accepting of diversity, appreciators of history, arts, mathematics, and sciences, and are prepared to meet the challenges of the world today. We value parental partnership through direct involvement in classroom and school activities and community stewardship through our support of local charities and hosting of community events.“
With your help, we are fighting against hunger in Southern Colorado along side a community partner, Care and Share. Help us live our mission and develop students of great character by participating in the Harvest of Love Food Drive Nov 11th – 22nd.
